In defense of Adam Carolla - Are men funnier than women? a conjecture

So your probably reading this because this hollydrama got your meat curtains in a bunch. But I’m not sure his observation is really that big of a deal, I’ll tell you why.

If men are funnier than women it would actually make a lot of sense and I can sum it up in one sentence… Humor gets men laid. It showcases our intelligence, draws attention, makes us memorable and moves us up the social hierarchy. In the end of all ends it speaks to our sexual natures - laughter makes us horny, especially women.

I’m not going to mention all the myriads of studies showing this - I’m not an academic and citing research and sources is boring when your high. Google it.

Point is men have a thousandfold more evolutionary reasons for developing and taking the risks to be funny. And humor is a risk. Try stand-up, see how sexy you feel when no one laughs at your jokes.

In Steven Pinker’s book ‘The Blank Slate’ he goes into great detail why more woman don’t go into engineering, computer science, and physics despite numerous societal attempts to even out the playing field and create large incentives for woman to pursue those academic paths.

I’m not saying this proves anything, only that our knee jerk reactions to situations like this can often be mistaken because of the societal pressure to think men and woman are equal across the entire spectrum when we know for a fact they are not.

Men excel in some cognitive abilities whereas woman excel in others. And those differences most certainly shape where men and woman express themselves in the world. Want to know what those differences are? Google it.

It’s not that men are funnier than women for any superior cognitive reasons only that we have far more incentives to stroke our funny bones and the intrinsic risk oriented nature to help us excel at it.

I’m sure there are some societal pressures that also make it easier for males to pursue the path but I think we’ll find that they are grounded in genetics and evolutionary psychology. But humans have a great capacity for breaking molds, even the ones that made us.
